I am a black woman - born from a black woman who was also born from a black woman.
I’ve never really celebrated ‘black history month’ mainly because the history I’ve been taught and the history celebrated is not the same.
Black history month is more of African-American history, and I am a Caribbean woman- even we all may have started from the motherland, our journeys were different.
I don’t feel like it’s my place to celebrate Black history month, but still, I use it as an excuse to celebrate Black influence, Black excellence, and Black - black.
Speaking of history- why is racism still a thing? Racism has always been MINDBOGGLING, especially POST SLAVERY racism. I don’t understand how people end up hating us after they were the ones mistreating us? Like, do you hate the fact that we survived? Is it the resiliency you hate? Our very existence is hated, and I just don’t understand why.
Anyway...
Black is a noun, adjective and verb. I love when Black people Blacking Black.
